Let Johnstown elected officials know: on August 19, it's time to pass a new solar law or end the moratorium on solar development.

This will help our community in countless ways: boosting local, union jobs; helping to stabilize and lower school taxes; and investing in community revitalization projects.

Fact Sheet

Here are more details on the benefits for the Johnstown project!

  • System size: 2 MW AC (40% of the allowable NYSERDA project size cap)
  • Annual production: 3,150,000 kWh per year. That is enough power for 563 homes in the Johnstown area (average home in Johnstown uses 5,592 kWh per year).
  • Environmental impact equivalents over 30 years:
    • 599,622 trees planted
    • 4,080,494 gallons of gas
    • 1,377,420 lights bulbs switched to LED
  • Estimated $405,680 in local, school and county PILOT payments over 30 years
  • Local utility infrastructure upgrades benefiting the surrounding area:
    • 1,380 feet of line reconductoring
    • Upgrading existing recloser
  • Project has taken significant measures to maximize visual buffering from nearby homes and from Route 107
    • Incorporated Town Planning Board input given at monthly meetings into selection of Willow Hedge row
    • Facilitated site visit with Planning Board members and was prepared to incorporate the input gained from the site visit into our site plans but that was disrupted by the moratorium
  • Project is open to providing additional local financial support via a Host Community Agreement to help fund capital improvement projects in the Township (i.e. parks or additions to the aging highway department fleet) to reduce the need to raise property taxes to residents.
